History

The Leonard C. Thomas HOS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was founded in April 2001 by the physicians of Hematology and Oncology Specialists, LLC.  Recognizing there were services outside of treatment to enhance the quality of life of patients, the physicians formed a non-profit organization to provide an avenue for patients to access these services. In August 2006, the Foundation changed its name to The Leonard C. Thomas HOS Foundation in memory of Dr. Leonard C. Thomas, a physician who was instrumental in the formation of the foundation who lost his own battle with cancer several months earlier.

It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and their families throughout their cancer experience.

The Foundation offers several programs for cancer patients such as personal counseling, genetic counseling, lymphedema therapy and screening, yoga, and mindful meditation.  These programs are available to any cancer patient in the area. Our newest initiative is to include Social Services/Case Management.

The Foundation recognizes that there are many people in the community that could benefit from its services.  In recognition of this need, the Foundation has implemented a strategic growth plan that will enable it to continue and grow the existing programs as well as initiating additional programs.

The Foundation offers the following programs:  Genetic Counseling, Personal, and Financial Counseling; Financial Assistance; Lymphedema Therapy and screening; Psychosocial services, a parttime social worker, Yoga, Mindful Meditation; Patient Education, and Patient Support Services.

Our foundation is supported through annual fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, and memorial and personal donations.
